Continuing Education Requirements

Medical Imaging Technologists, including Radiographers, Nuclear Medicine Technologists, and Radiation Therapists must complete 24 hours of Continuing Education on a biannual basis. The CE biennium is driven by the national certification organization (i.e. ARRT or NMTCB). Continuing education completed by a licensee must be approved by an organization recognized by the board to evaluate continuing education for medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals. The board recognizes both the list of RCEEM from ARRT and the NMTCB Recognized CE Approval Organizations.

Please note, although KBMIRT recognizes an organization to approve continuing education for its licensees, the same organization may not be recognized by the national certification organization through which a licensee holds a national certification. It is the responsibility of the licensee to assure the continuing education organization is approved by the respective national certification organization.

NMTCB Recognized CE Approval Organizations

Limited X-ray Machine Operators (LXMO) must complete 12 hours of Continuing Education on a biannual basis. At least 6 of the CE hours must directly relate to medical imaging or radiation protection. The biennium for a LXMO is driven by the year the individual was licensed by the board. Continuing education completed by a limited licensee must be approved by an organization recognized by the board to evaluate continuing education, including the list of RCEEM and the NMTCB Recognized CE Approval Organizations (see links above).

Licensees no longer submit CE Certificates to the board at the time of renewal. If a licensee is randomly selected for a CE Audit, that individual will be notified and will submit CE Certificates at that time.
